New Syllabus for Human Society and its Environment (HSIE)
This week the Pedagogical Mentors, Mrs Frost and Ms Parker attended a Professional Learning day about the new HSIE syllabus. It was a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and learn across the Diocese. I have included a summary about the syllabus for your perusal.
Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) helps students explore the relationships between people, places, and the environment, and understand how past events and cultures have shaped the world we live in today. Through the study of history and geography, students develop essential knowledge and skills that help them make sense of the world—both past and present—and their place within it.
The HSIE syllabus acts as both a mirror, reflecting students' own experiences, and a window, offering views into different times, places, and cultures. By examining stories, images, objects, and historical sites, alongside maps, globes, and data, students learn how people connect with each other and the environment across time and space.
Students also explore what it means to be Australian, learning about civics and citizenship and the values that underpin Australia’s democratic and inclusive society. A key focus is on Aboriginal Cultures and Histories, giving all students the opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the rich heritage and contributions of Aboriginal Peoples.
Semester Reports
We would like to inform our St James families that Semester 1 student reports will be available via Compass on Friday, 27th June, the end of week 9.
Have a wonderful weekend.
